The login screen goes away after 1 minute idle period

Now, is this problem at my end? or there UNIX serv er is set for the login screen to go away after 1 minute idle period??

Why are you idling at the login screen anyway? I've seen logi n screens that will log you out after 15 seconds for security reasons. If you are just going to idle, then don't connect at all. Then, I timed it and after 60 sec. it was gone again. So, just to confirm, is it in PuTTY's problem or the UNIX Server Shell's security feature? Why would it timeout BEFORE logging in??? I realized this also on an AS/400 server but it usually timesout AFTER 15 min. AFTER when users login. But why before? I do not know. After a certain amount of time, the server will stop sending packets to the client and disconnect you from the server. Just imagine if there were over a hundred connections to the Telnet server just idling without authenticating. One minute is more than enough time for you to login. You shouldn't be idling at the login prompt in first place. Post Comments
