A decisive factor: The internet business demands a domain name as very important first step for all users. This domain name is the decisive factor on your business. It gives an impression about your business. 
Meaningful: This domain name should be meaningful and related to your business. It must be catchy and impressive on the visitors. You may have the tendency to create a name of your kith or kins, but reconsider this idea and make it more meaningful and effective.
Get opinion from others: The name should be catchy and audio comfortable. Pronounce it slowly and faster. If it sounds beautiful, easy to pronounce and meaningful,  then that name is suit. Harry Beckwith narrates beautifully about some unique ideas about naming a business in his book ‘The Invisible Touch'. Getting opinion from others also helps to get a proper domain name. 
Business related: The domain name of your business should resemble something about your business or its products. If the name of your business tells something about your business, that is a positive impression and publicity too. 
Ever remembered: You may prefer your family name for a business, but it is better to give a re-thought about it.  Of course, these names may be remembered even years after, but their products or services will not be remembered on the first turn itself.  
Simple: The name should be simple and the visitors should get the meaning of the name without much thought. Visitors are different with diverse thoughts and attitude. So give a name which is simple with common meaning. 
Short: An average person may not recall the long domain names. It should be like a name itself not like a book. It may be descriptive to get ‘lowcostdiabeticrecipesforalloccasions.com', but it is not going to be recalled, and you run the risk of people misspelling it. Better to avoid using dashes, too. People don't expect them, so instead of visiting your site as ‘Pickles-R-Us', they can access with ‘pickelsrus' easily. 
Better extension: Look at the .com site before you choose .net. If the name that you really want is not available as a .com, choose the other extensions such as .info or .tv etc. People give first preference to ‘.com' commonly.  
 Take your time and choose the domain names wisely, because you are going to continue with your domain name for long time in your business. All the best for a better domain name!
