Errors in specification in a project plan
Introduction
Specification also has its own errors. And it can be viewed in different areas. The places to search for errors in a specification are given below:
Time-levels
A time level is unavoidable for specification. If there are no time-levels in the specification, you can assume that one will be imposed upon you and it is an impossible one. The inactive people always undervalue the time involved for work. You must add realistic dates. The aspect should include a specific understanding of the extent of any transitional stages of the task, particularly those which have to be delivered.
The crossing points
Identify and agree your interfaces and preserve a friendly contact throughout the project. There are edges between your team and both its customers and suppliers. At these points something gets moved. Don't make any common understanding but the pros and cons should be discussed and agreed from the very beginning of the project. The arrival of one new member, in both teams makes for your habitual understandings to vanish.
Resources
Make sure the actual numbers are practical or not. If they are misplaced, affix them. There are unquestionable differences in their assumed values. The inactive tends to disregard resources. The specification should recognize the materials, equipment and manpower which are needed for the project. The agreement should include a commitment by your managers to distribute or to fund them.
Peripheral dependency
Emphasize the effect of the problems with your project so that everyone is quite clear about their importance. Make this very clear so that these people too will receive warning of your needs. Your work may depend upon that of others but contact these people and ask if they are able to fulfill the assumptions in your plan.
The international perspective
Some of the work entrusted to you may be undone or duplicated by others in your project plan. Inactive often focus too narrowly on the work of one team and fail to consider how it fits into the larger picture. Some of the planned effort may be unsuited with others. It might be just plain foolishness in the larger context.
Conclusion
The specification may vary. If circumstances change then the specification will be out of date. You should not regard it as imprinted firmly one but as a display board where everyone concerned can make out the current, common understanding of the project. Everyone must know if you change the content. At the same time do not hesitate to change it if needed.
