The ranking of your web site depends how you present your website and how customers view your site and your products. It shows how effective your website is and whether you get a lot of sales or not. Whenever you go into a shop you usually go in through the front entrance, not the side or the back. In the same way, when people visit your website, they probably, come in from the home page and go around your site. Sometimes they may come in from another link to one of your sub page. 
Usually your front page is the main attraction and includes features and elements that your sub pages do not have. It is almost like a "wow page" full of rich content. The front page should be consisted with the best information about your site. It should contain all the valuable information in your site. It does not mean that your sub pages are useless and should not provide any information on them. 
 
There are some tips to impress your visitors as soon as they get in to your site: 
Free Offers: This is essential to attract your visitor's attention. They are the things to put at the top or near the top of your site, the free offers like "free e-books" or "free domain" etc... 
 
Updated content: Make sure the content on your front page is updated daily. This will not only make them interested to look forward every day but also  will show that your site is updated often and gives them a reason to keep coming back. 
 
 Showcasing: Showcasing your products on the front page will immediately get visitors interested to know on what you are offering. It will help to show them what your site is about as well as it will make them to browse more of your e-store. 
 
 Add highlights from sub pages: Add little bit of information from your sub pages to give them a picture of what your site contains. For example, if your site has an article section, post a few new articles each day. 
 
Sales and discounts offers: Offering discounts and coupons on your front page will definitely get people interested in what you are selling. Saving money and getting a good deal is always a good reason to look around and purchase something from your site. Make sure the sales can be seen clearly with an expiry date that you stick to. 
 
Specific content: Offer content that can only be found on your front page. This will make your visitors to choose more content from without viewing it on every page. Some tips, news headlines or article samples are essential on your front page. 
 
Only abbreviations of stories or articles: Whenever you post articles or stories on the front page make sure to post only a sample of the article and include a "click here for more" link so that they can view the whole article. This will make them interested to know more and will inspire them to go to other parts of your website. It will also help you to keep your front page from being cluttered.
