Imperfect layout formatting
Prepare and use the layout reasonably. And it is your best guide for further steps. Concentrate not only on the body text but also on the content too. Both of them should be offset with out overrunning by graphics. Body text should not be 60 pixels high. Sentences should wrap nicely from left to right. Navigation should be perfect in the screen.
Lack of content
Content is a must in a website. . By content, it means something people would want to see or read. It is not just a string of clipart, GIF animations or "under construction" signs. No content means no visitors. It is a terrible defect. Visitors spend money to your page and so it is a politeness to provide something worthwhile to them.
Orphan pages slow navigation
Easy access to pages and a link back to the main page are necessary for the smooth running of a site. Very often some sites have only a "back" button provided to go through the pages. It consumes lot of time of the visitor and naturally insists him to withdraw. Many sites, especially those with frames, can be accessed by search engines into a certain portion of a complete page. Since these sites have no links to the main page it leaves visitors stranded. These pages are considered "Orphan Pages." Try to put a link back to your main menu on every page, so that visitors should not be troubled.
Unnecessary use of technology
Technology is great fun to use, if it is used with wisdom and care. You may think it is cool, but 99% of the visitors are with diverse mentalities. Do not make unnecessary show off to the visitors with technology just for the sake of using them. All Java scripts, Java applets, VRMLs, and other high-tech and possibly error-prone technology should be used only when the page needs them.
Midis and non-stop animations
Midis are nice little add-ons that can add atmosphere to a page if there is a way to stop it before your readers become irritated. Nothing on page contents should be a continuous one, but with a way to stop them.
The above facts are important points to be aware and should be avoided in the sites. And thus your site will run smoothly.
