Most of us usually hope for a better outcome of tomorrow without taking better actions today, in the present. If you don't design your own life plan, chances are you'll fall into someone else's plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much! You see, motivation is what gets us started; hope is what keeps us holding on and habit is what keeps us moving; success is an act of fructification by hope, motivation and habit.
Hope
Hope is the most important, as it sees us through the most depressing and discouraging moments. It keeps our dreams alive and feeds through to us, by being gradually motivated. Habits allow us to pick ourselves up to carry on.
Habits
When we promise ourselves to be better persons, we pursue certain ideals we believe to be the best and follow through to the end. We certainly ought to not just follow through, but also adjust via analysis and perfection. The process is dynamic, it is a continuum we need to gyrate in. But bear this in mind, for issues concerning your attitude ranging from how you treat people, conduct yourself to carrying out small tasks; there is no difference between small and large problems or issues. When you treat small things recklessly, chances are unconsciously, you'll carelessly treat larger issues in much the same way. You might refuse to say, not the case with me, but you'd need a considerable amount of concentration not to be careless, but human concentration can only go so far, before one starts imploding.
This is the reason why you'd need to fulfil your pledge, by doing what you promise yourself. It is also the reason you see states men seem impeccable; they've just done what people easily give up on; creating better habits, as habits are carried on without tremendous conscious on our part. You might feel you are failing today, but today is not tomorrow; continue fighting for better habits.
So care to maintain good habits, these do not come from without. They have to be worked on by ourselves and the best way we know how. You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great. As consistently reminded, we can make ourselves as we please through consistent and concentrated thought. The stronger the thoughts, the earlier the fructification of success. Thought is focussed and given a particular direction and, in the degree that thought is thus focussed and given direction, it is effective in the work it is sent out to accomplish. We have all the materials within us that we need, to do just that. WG Bennis eloquently advised that 'You are your own raw material. When you know what you consist of and what you want to make of it, then you can invent yourself.'
So it calls to us to make it a habit, by consciously observing our actions and thoughts and replacing the bad habits by correcting the undesirables with the good and better habits, remember, you cannot perform in a manner inconsistent with the way you see yourself. All we need to do is to increase the frequency of consciously observing actions and thoughts and it falls into a habit of taking action to correct ourselves.
The same procedure can be used to bring about a habit of bringing ideas into action in the present. Be conscious of the little personal, household or work related issues that seem not right and put them right on the onset. You’ll soon discover that by the mere intensity of frequency you do this, it falls to habit that you become a doer who does not wait for perfect conditions to start anything. These are the recipes of success! As Zig Zigler says, ‘If you wait until all the lights are "green" before you leave home, you'll never get started on your trip to the top.’
By getting down to business immediately, you’ll notice that you’d want to instantly carry out the ideas that come to you, by doing what circumstances allow you to do in the present to fulfil your dreams, whilst you plan and engineer, to enable yourself to confront future circumstances, to allow you to do what you couldn’t do. If you wait for better conditions before you can act, how are you going to comprehend what is needed to perform the task at hand? It is only by starting, that you’ll be able to understand the kind of tools you require as you go on.
Always remember that the impossible is often the untried, train you mind to fall into good habits and see what happens. Initially, like you’d observe in training a child to do the things he/she has never done. You’ll for sure face rebellion! But keep coming back at it, and the mere frequency of the suggestion will relegate the idea to the subconscious mind, hence, becomes a habit performed unconsciously.
Motivation
The greatest waste in the world is the difference between what you are and what you could become! This sets off people to pull themselves closer to their full potential. Being motivated is not a one off event as Zigler says ‘People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing... that's why we recommend it daily.’ Get on and read as many motivational books, articles and quotes, remember that every choice you make has an end result. Where you see yourself today is less important than where you finish off tomorrow. If where you finish off tomorrow is not exactly where you wanted and when it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached, don't adjust the goals, adjust the action steps.
You have the ability to motivate yourself daily, just as you are now by reading this article. Success is the maximum utilization of the ability that you have. Lets expect success in everything we do, but be cognizant of the fact that we can only expect and demand success, when and where it comes is not within our power. How and why it comes is very much in our power for simple reasons we attach to what we want to attain, which boils down to thought. Success can only come sooner or later, it’s up to you, and it is not time specific.
Advice is that, keep on keeping on, at what you are doing... as a result, success comes unexpectedly; it is by a series of small accomplished things that when put together brings about great works performed by a determined motivated individual. As Zigler says 'Motivation gets you going and habit gets you there.’ So see to it you assiduously cultivate motivation and habit for your own benefit, for a simple reason that You have to ‘Be’ before you can ‘Do’ and ‘Do’ before you can ‘Have’.
